Newell D. Wright is an Associate Professor and the Wampler-Longacre
Professor of Marketing at James Madison University and a research fellow
with the Commonwealth Information Security Center at James Madison
University (JMU). In October 2000, he received the national Direct Marketing
Educational Foundation's Distinguished Teaching Award for his courses on
Internet Marketing and Database Marketing at James Madison University.
Dr. Wright, who has been online since 1989, has been actively researching
the Internet since 1993. In 1995, he taught one of the first courses on
Internet marketing in the country. Since that time, he has written several
articles on various Internet topics, including search engine optimization,
and consulted around the world about Internet marketing, e-commerce, and
search engine optimization. Recently, he and several other JMU faculty
members were awarded a $9 million grant to study and improve information
security for e-commerce and m-commerce transactions. Specifically, Dr.
Wright will be researching issues surrounding secure m-commerce, or mobile
commerce, using cell phones, personal digital assistants, and onboard
navigation systems.
