Raul has been a research faculty member at Carnegie Mellon's computer science department since 1991, doing research on new methods and applications of knowledge discovery. He has published nearly 50 research articles in natural, social, and computer science journals. He has been a principal investigator on six grants from the National Science Foundation, has served on its advisory committee for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences, and is an action editor of the journal Machine Learning. He received a Ph.D. in computer science at Carnegie Mellon, studying under Herbert A. Simon, and holds engineering degrees from the University of Illinois.
