Paul Wood is Group Product Manager for Snap Search and Directory, a division of NBC Internet, Inc. (NBCi). Mr. Wood is responsible for developing, implementing and deploying search and directory products and technologies on NBCi's flagship service, Snap.com, as well as other sites in the NBCi family of services, including NBC.com, and rich media searching on Videoseeker.com.
From June 1996 until the launch of NBCi, Mr. Wood served as Senior Producer of Snap.com's Search and Directory team, leading more than 30 product managers, producers and editors in the creation of the Internet's next-generation search and directory service. Mr. Wood has been responsible for all directory and search development for Snap.com, including the directory's editorial positioning, technical implementation of search, partnership integration, and overall strategic planning and development.
Prior to joining Snap in 1996, Mr. Wood served as the Catalog Manager for Lycos's original A2Z Directory, where he supervised development of the Lycos category tree, as well as site evaluations for content submissions. While at Lycos, he made contributions to the book "Most Popular Web Sites: The Best of the Net from a2z," published by Ziff-Davis/Que in August 1996, and managed production of a companion CD-ROM to the book.
Mr. Wood has also worked with Macmillan Computer Publishing as a CD-ROM developer for consumer Internet titles. He managed and was responsible for hands-on production of all HTML coding and page layout for 500+ page titles, including creation of original artwork and multimedia elements using a variety of graphic design and animation programs. His CD-ROM title credits include City Guide USA (1996, Que Publishing), Most Popular Web Sites: Best of the Net from A to Z (1996, Que Publishing), and SeniorNet (1996, Que Publishing).
Mr. Wood's media career also includes five years of freelance photography and filmmaking, where his regular clients included Kansas City Live! Magazine, Pitch Weekly, Women's Sports & Fitness, and The Jewish Institute of Religion. He has taught basic photography to non-English-speaking students at San Francisco's Academy of Art College. Prior to his career in photography, Mr. Wood worked as a tool- and dye-maker in Birmingham and London, England for eight years.
Mr. Wood holds a B.F.A. with honors in Photography & Film from the San Francisco Art Institute.
