Mr. Abbiss is a 46 yr. old entrepreneur, from Dundas, ON. He is founder and CEO of redToronto.com, Toronto's Local Search engine. This is his 3rd business venture.
In October of 1990, Mr. Abbiss launched OnePlus, a long distance company and in less than 2 years, the company grew to record revenues exceeding $7 million. In the fall of 1992, ACC Corp. of Rochester, NY made a favourable acquisition bid. In 1994, Mr. Abbiss established Optel Communications Corp., which became the dominant Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) in the competitive local line and high-speed Internet access industry in Canada with sales exceeding $50 million.
In 1998, Mr. Abbiss was named Ontario's "Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year" by Ernst & Young for his accomplishments at Optel. Since 1999, Mr. Abbiss has been involved in Internet Search research and development. From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Abbiss was CEO of Sites.com Inc., a developer of search engine technology and a companion retail search guide. Subsequently, he was founder and CEO of Sites Media Inc., a publisher of retail Internet Guides.
redToronto was founded by Mr. Abbiss in March 2003. redToronto.com has the largest database of Toronto area business websites available anywhere. Users may search for local businesses using keywords/phrases or through its expansive directory, and may sort results by relevance, alphabetically, or geographically by neighbourhood or proximity to any Toronto location.
