Andy Baio
Founder
Upcoming.org & Waxy.org
Andy Baio is the creator and co-founder of Upcoming.org, the collaborative events calendar acquired by Yahoo! in October 2005. As a life-long fan of live music, the idea for Upcoming stemmed from his frustration with losing track of concerts his friends attended. Now living in the Bay Area, he leads the development of Yahoo's social events platform full-time.
When he's not programming, Andy is working on Waxy.org, his personal weblog. His original reporting has led to frequent media coverage, including the New York Times, Associated Press, BBC, NPR, MSNBC, Slashdot, and Wired News. His interests include Internet culture, social networks, and the grey areas of copyright law.
Andy's covered the paid text link issue in the past, most notably in original reporting breaking the news about Wordpress' hidden link farm and the use of paid articles and links on Syndic8.
When O'Reilly Media became embroiled in a similar controversy, Tim O'Reilly consulted with Andy to help understand and address the issue.
