Marshall Simmonds is the manager-search engine relations for About.com. At
28, working remotely from Bend, OR, Marshall is the youngest optimization
expert in the industry and came to About.com nearly six months ago. His
challenge working for About.com, a network of over 750 different topic
sites with over 860,000 articles, is to optimize all of its content and
maximize search engine exposure. Marshall is also the liaison between About
and the search engines. He has spoke on the topic of search engine
optimization technology at numerous conferences around the world. He also
trains the 750 About.com Guides, works on site redesign and
develops/implements strategic optimization techniques network wide.
Prior to joining About.com, Simmonds was the senior search engine
strategist for Multimedia Marketing Group, where he created and managed the
search engine optimization department. As a specialist in SEO for over
three years and personally trained by Danny Sullivan, he worked with over
150 clients including Intel, Lexis Nexis, Merril Lynch Online, Hughes
Network Systems, Wired, Lawyers.com and placed more than 2,500 pages in the
top ten results of the big eight search engines.
In addition, Simmonds created and moderated the I-Search Digest - a
twice-weekly e-mail discussion list where members and industry leaders
cover search engines, optimization techniques and strategies, and the net.
Prior to joining About he grew the subscriber-base from 200 to over 6,500
members within a 1-year time frame
